Matthew 1:1-25
Whenever I read this list of genealogy I usually read through it rather than read it. This time I heard it read. I actually heard the names and realized that Matthew traces the genealogy of Jesus through the Davidic kings. Luke's genealogy is a Little different. (Luke 3) I also noticed that although Matthew goes back to Abraham to highlight the Jewishness of Jesus he does include gentiles, women, and "ne'er do wells". This sets the tone for Matthew's whole message that even though Jesus was a Jew his mission was a world wide mission. Also, from the beginning Matthew is clear as to what kind of salvation Jesus offers - not a political savior but a spiritual savior. He came to save people from their sins.
